1/26/15  .... The resume/story posted below is still sort of accurate, though Will has moved on to building high end custom banjos and guitars full time, here at the shop.

January 28, 2011

I recently sent a proposal to reproduce some Frank Lloyd Wright furniture for the Martin House in Buffalo, New York ... One of the requirements was a 'curriculum vitae' ... I had to Google it to see what it was ... anyway, here's mine .... We will hear if we've been selected next week sometime ...

Curriculum Vitae

This will be a rather informal document as a curriculum vitae is not something I typically need to have on hand for my work.  I long ago stopped participating in gallery shows, though recently, I have exhibited by invitation at the Bennington Museum ‘State of Craft: 50 Years of Craft in Vermont’ show this past summer from May through October and also by invitation at The Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont.  I sometimes participate in the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers annual shows to support that group, of which I am a member.

I was born in 1947 and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1969 with a BS business degree, majoring in logistics.  After a very brief corporate job in Philadelphia, in sales, I left on a two year travel adventure, living during that time for short periods in Fort Lauderdale and Key Largo Florida (6 months), Washington, DC (1 month), Montauk Long Island, (3 months), San Francisco and Palm Springs (8 months), Europe (2 months) and arriving in Vermont, where I met my wife in July of 1971.  We worked hard and bought a small piece of land in Arlington, where we personally built our first house, in our spare time, in 1974.. I worked as a carpenter for Mark Breen (see attached letter) from 1974 through 1979, establishing myself as a custom furniture maker January 1st, 1980.  In the ensuing 31 years, our business has grown to now employ four full time assistants, two of whom are our sons, Sam 28, and Will 26.  Sam runs his own quasi independent custom metal fabrication business in a shop on the same property where I live and work.  Our younger son Will assists me in the woodshop and with my online work and makes custom banjos on the side.. My wife Kit is a jewelry maker and has been a professional garden designer for the past 12 years.

I am self taught and I will let my work speak for itself … There are numerous links to our extensive online presence in our attached portfolio page.

If you would like more info, here is a link to a short historical photo essay I wrote in November of 2010 …
